Click to view more photos of the hallOrsett Village Hall is situated at the junction of High Road and Mill Lane, Orsett, Essex. [View map]. It was built in 1972, with a meeting room Annexe added in 2006.

The hall measures approx. 11 x 16 metres with a maximum capacity of 150 persons (130 comfortably) and parking for 30 cars. Additionally, there's a fully fitted kitchen, a raised stage, a bar room, men's, ladies and disabled toilets, baby change table, cloakroom, meeting room and safe outdoor play area for children. The front entrance now has a very accessible push button entry door, wide enough for wheelchairs and double buggies. The entrance, kitchen door and fire exit doors were upgraded in 2015; we were very fortunate to secure funding towards the hall improvements and repairs from Veolia North Thames Trust.

The hall is home to Orsett Playgroup, various clubs including Orsett Women's Institute, badminton and indoor bowls, and is hired on a regular basis by religious, dance, theatre and fitness groups. You can find out more about who uses the hall by visiting the What's On page.

If you're looking for a new venue for your club, Orsett Village Hall now has midweek slots available in the afternoon/early evening and Sunday evenings are also available for weekly hire. If you are interested in setting up a new or established club at our village hall on a regular weekly basis we would love to hear from you. For further information please come along to the hall on a Monday evening between 7:45 and 8:30 pm (not Bank Holidays) to discuss with committee members.

The hall is available to hire on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays for weddings, dances, parties and other events.  The Annexe can be hired at the same time as the hall for an additional fee if required. Please note that the hall is not available to hire for teenage parties (13th, 18th etc.) and 21st Birthday parties are at the discretion of the committee. No booking is confirmed until the Hire Agreement is completed and the deposit is paid.

FULL PAYMENT for your hire is due at the time of booking payable by credit or debit card. We reserve the right to charge the hirer in the event of breakages, damage to include accidental damage, loss of contents, excessive noise/disturbance, abuse to the premises, or if the premises are left in an unsanitary condition.

We do not take a security deposit in advance of the event, but we reserve the right to charge this afterwards if we have any issues. Our booking system records and retains your credit/debit card details and any fees for the above will be charged to the same card. We will contact you before we charge any damages/losses to your card.

An example of charges are as follows:

  • Extra Cleaning 10ph

  • Breach of T&Cs will result in a 150 charge (Fireworks, abuse of the premises etc)

  • Breakages We will charge replacement/repair costs for larger items

Hire rates
From 1st January 2019

  • Saturday/Sunday day time (8-4pm): 22 per hour

  • Saturday/Sunday evening (4pm-close): 25 per hour

  • Friday evening (4pm-close): 25 per hour

Mid-Week bookings
During term-time the hall is almost fully booked Monday to Friday - see the What's On page, although there are some mid-week slots available which would suit a regular hirer.

The meeting room (the Annexe) is available to hire at the same time as the main hall if required, but not on its own.

The hall is leased from the local council and is run by a Management Committee made up of local residents, mostly volunteers. They oversee the day to day running of the hall and manage bookings, cleaning, repairs and maintenance.
